Coffin Hunters is a California band that operates at the intersection of traditional heavy metal, stoner rock and Â´70s proto metal on their third album, Cosmic Dawn. The high-pitched vocals are something of an acquired taste, sort of like Eric Wagner from Trouble, but they do fit the musicÂ´s spacey, occult vibe. Some tracks move along at a good clip, while others have a doomier pace, but the sequencing is evenly distributed and Cosmic Dawn flows well. The songwriting is good overall with a nice collection of riffs (both guitar and bass) and a few catchy choruses (-Give Up the Ghost-), which all should appeal to fans of bands ranging from High Spirits to Spell to White Magician.
