The Band “Chehols” aka “The Gypsy Cowboys” started out as nothing, but a bunch of friends, having fun playing on the streets for pocket money. The first line up of the band (2008-2010) consisted of Ilja Krumins on guitar and vocals, Matiss Tazans on drums and Ivars Steinbergs on double bass. As they played the streets, offers from different kinds of bars began to flow in, and after a season of regular bar gigs, the guys began to realize that playing is not “just for fun”, but that it can also be a real and an exciting line of work. Since that time Chehols has experienced some changes in its line – up : In 2010 Kristians Priekulis takes Ivars’ spot on double bass and in 2011 Karlis Vitols, a local harmonica player joins the band. Right now the band has earned a reputation of being a fine and reliable Bar band that mixes elements of Rockabilly, Rhythm‘n’Blues and Blues and fluels it all up with intense Rock energy- audiences love their live shows and the energy that they produce on stage. Chehols have played countless top venues all across Latvia and also have played abroad – in Sweden, Finland, Lithuania and Russia. Their recently recorded album –“ Songs of the Gypsy Cowboys” (hence their nickname), and the succesful participation in the Latvian Blues Challenge only serve as proof that Chehols is strong and confident force in Latvian music.
